To Secretary General of
00:00, June 15, 2006 | AnnouncementsDear Mr. Davis,
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly – Vanadzor addresses to you asking not to remain indifferent and pay attention to the fact of quick worsening of human rights situations in Poland.
Our organization makes the protest in connection with the actions of the Minister of Education of Poland Roman Giertych, who has dismissed Miroslav Selatitsky from the post of director of the National Center of Improvement of Teachers of Poland for publishing the educational manual of the Council of Europe on human rights called “Compass”, as well as with the announcement made by the ministry on the possibility of liquidating the National Center of Improvement of Teachers. The reason for such decision was the chapter in the “Compass”, devoted to the rights of sexual minorities.
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly – Vanadzor considers, that statements and such actions contradict principles of democracy and human rights in Poland, in the country where for the last years these principles were shown most vividly, where the understanding of tolerance and equality were not only declarations but practice of the life of this republic, in the country which is the leader of democratic principles on the Post-Soviet space.
We are also concerned with the fact that, remaining of such actions unpunished can have destructive impact and bring to the worsening of human rights situation and formation of an atmosphere of impunity on all Post-Soviet space.
Coordinator of HCA Vanadzor
