Statement regarding quitting enrollment in the RA Military Prosecutor’s office Commission
09:46, September 11, 2013 | Announcements, News, Own | Right to be free from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, Right to Fair Trial, Right to Life, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesTaking into account the obviously illegal decision of the RA MoD Investigation Service on stopping the criminal prosecution against Tigran Khachatryan, the son of the former Governor of Syunik region and his bodyguard, which was reached under the direct guidance and supervision of RA Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan, we find our further activities impossible within the composition of the Commission on servicemen’s death that hasn’t yet started its activities.
The decision of the MoD Investigation Department to close the criminal prosecution in the preliminary investigation stage of this scandalous case aggravates the already existing public distrust towards the RA Military Prosecutor’s office that implements ex officio oversight. The one-sided public speeches of Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan over this case of great public interest don’t instill trust for the objective and comprehensive study of the criminal cases over deaths in the RA Armed Forces.
