The project “Legal Clinic-2018” has commenced; the participants expect to become skilled in law and more competitive in the labor market

On May 25, 2018 the theoretical stage of the HCA Vanadzor project “Legal Clinic-2018” commenced in Dilijan.
In the framework of the three-day theoretical training, the participants gained general knowledge of human rights and mechanisms of their protection and then consolidated their knowledge through practical work.
On the first day of the training, advocate Arayik Zalyan, Legal Department Coordinator of HCA Vanadzor, and HCA Vanadzor advocate Ani Chatinyan presented the domestic and international legal documents concerning human rights and the protection of human rights.
On the second day, they presented the mechanisms of the protection of human rights at domestic and international instances and touched upon the technique for compiling legal documents.
The last day of the training was devoted to the principles of administration and the types of compensation for damage. The theme was presented by HCA Vanadzor lawyers Artur Harutyunyan and Tatevik Siradeghyan.
The full three-day training was concluded by HCA Vanadzor Chairman Artur Sakunts, who presented the theme of the definitions and classifications of human rights, the placement of importance on humans as the highest value and the obligations of the State in connection with respecting human rights.
The practical stage of the project is coming up. In the framework of the stage, the participants in the project will apply the obtained knowledge in practice, in particular by compiling legal documents and providing legal advice.
The project “Legal Clinic” has been implemented by HCA Vanadzor since 2013. In the framework of the project, more than 70 lawyers have been prepared. Some of them are successfully applying the obtained knowledge in the field of professional activity.
18 lawyers from different regions of Armenia and Yerevan are being trained in the framework of the project “Legal Clinic-2018.”
Mane Asryan from Vayots Dzor Region received education in law 7 years ago. She had short experience in the field of family law and is now a volunteer. She is participating in the Legal Clinic with the expectation to become a more skilled and competitive specialist.
“During the theoretical stage of the Legal Clinic, I gained a lot of knowledge especially on human rights.
I am confident that the Legal Clinic will help me become a more competitive specialist and will increase my chances of finding a job,” Mane said.
Emma Shahinyan from Yerevan is majoring in law. She has already received a lot of knowledge during the theoretical stage of the project and consolidated what she learnt at the higher education institution. “Prior to this, I managed to get disappointed with the work of the courts but I realized during the training that there are mechanisms for influencing the work of the court, and these mechanisms should be applied.”
Avet Dishunts from Syunik Region and Naira Mkhitaryan from Lori Region are also majoring in law and are of the same opinion with regard to one matter, namely the fact that there are hardly any opportunities to apply the knowledge gained at higher education institutions. The Legal Clinic gives that opportunity.
In our conversation, Naira placed importance on the opportunity to add to and to re-evaluate the knowledge gained at a higher education institution during 4 years and expressed her hope to use that knowledge in her professional activity. “We are performing our internship in schools and have the opportunity to use the knowledge we gained mainly from the perspective of pedagogy, but we do not gain practical skills in the field of law.
I expect that the knowledge and skills gained in the framework of the Legal Clinic will help me in finding a job as well as throughout performing professional activity.”
Avet added, “The Legal Clinic gives the opportunity to apply the gained knowledge in practice. I expect to gain more experience and skills at the Clinic.”
HCA Vanadzor advocate Ani Chatinyan, who is the coordinator of the Legal Clinic, mentioned that the project had for the first time ever involved different regions of the RA. Before, it used to be implemented in Lori Region. “In my opinion, the project will be very effective as a strong and motivated team has come together.” Of course, we will be able to record the results at the end of the project. However, we can state that the first and starting phase has had a brilliant end, which is evidenced by the feedback and assessment of the participants. This format of the project allows us to have lawyers trained in the field of law throughout the territory of the RA who, assessing the necessity and significance of human rights, will be ready to fight against their violations.
The project ends on August 31.
Some of the participants in the project are already cooperating with HCA Vanadzor in collecting information on human rights violations in their regions, compiling legal documents and providing legal advice to the target groups of the Organization.
