Note that under the criminal proceedings initiated, A. Petrosyan, Head of the Infections Diseases Unit of Armavir Medical Center, was charged under Article 130(2) of the RA Criminal Code (non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment of professional duties by medical and support personnel, which caused through negligence the patient’s death).
Ani Chatinyan, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor lawyer, defends the interests of the successors to victim Karine Hovhannisyan.
At the court hearing, 3 medical staff members of Armavir Medical Center gave testimonies; actually, their testimonies aimed to protect A. Petrosyan. The witnesses stated that the defendant had a positive characteristic and performed his professional duties in good faith.
It is noteworthy that in response to the questions of the parties, the witnesses provided unclear, contradictory and evasive answers.
When asked whether the treatment administered for K. Hovhannisyan was right, the witnesses answered that defendant A. Petrosyan was a good specialist, showed care and attention to his patients. The witnesses started their testimonies with such words and then mentioned that the question could be answered by doctors.
While the witnesses insisted that they had taken all the necessary actions, the expert opinion shows a different picture.
At the court hearing of February 9, 2016, the Court intended to question another witness who did not attend the hearing. The Court ruled to apprehend the witness. The hearing was adjourned.
The next court hearing is scheduled for February 29, 2016, at 12 pm.
