“Mataghis” case to be tried at the RA Court of Criminal Appeals
13:23, March 28, 2013 | Press Release | Right to Fair Trial, Right to LifeAt 14:00 p.m. on March 4 of 2013, the trial of the appeals of the accusing parties and victim’s successor versus the acquittal verdict over the “Mataghis” case is scheduled at the RA Court of Criminal Appeals.
Through her appeal victim Roman Yeghiazaryan’s successor Gohar Melkonyan motioned to the RA Court of Criminal Appeals to review the verdict taken by the Shirak Region Court of Common Jurisdiction and reach the right verdict.
The RA Military Prosecutor General’s office demands quashing the verdict and reaching an accusation verdict by sentencing Razmik Sargsyan to a 7-year imprisonment, while, Arayik Zalyan and Musa Serobyan to an 8-year of incarceration, respectively.
It should be noted that Razmik Sargsyan, Musa Serobyan and Arayik Zalyan were charged with murdering fellow servicemen Roman Yeghiazaryan and Hovsep Mkrtumyan during military service at “Mataghis” village unit in 2003.
And only after 9 years of consistent struggles the Shirak Region Court of Common Jurisdiction acquitted them.
