Successful Moot Court by Vanadzor Legal Clinic -3 Project Participants
18:04, November 27, 2015 | News, Own newsAs we have informed before, HCA Vanadzor carries out the Vanadzor Legal Clinic -3 Project funded by the American Bar Association. Under the Project, it was intended for the first time to hold a moot court trial. On November 21, 2015, a moot court trial was held at Lori Marz (Region) General Jurisdiction Court within criminal proceedings initiated under Article 112(1) of the RA Criminal Code. The Project participants, previously divided into groups, acted as various parties to the trial. Members of one group acted as prosecutors and the defendant, and members of the other one acted as attorneys, witnesses and the victim. Lawyer Hayk Alumyan assumed the role of the presiding judge at the invitation of the American Bar Association. The Court announced the case examination open in line with the regulations of the Criminal Procedure Code. Then the persons present at the hearing were introduced, and the examination began. Based on the opinion of the parties to the trial, the Court determined the sequence of evidence examination. Before the trial examination started, the involved attorneys filed some motions, including one on releasing the defendant from detention. Then the Court questioned the witnesses, heard the statements of the victim and examined the evidence available. In the end of the trial, the parties gave their final speeches.
The Court gave the defendant the opportunity of the last plea and left to issue a verdict. At the end of the moot court trial, its participants were awarded certificates confirming their participation in the moot court. The most active participants will pass to stage 2 to compete with the team from Gyumri.
