Seminars on reflection of the recommendations of international observation missions in the new Election Code held in a number of Armenian cities and towns
12:43, June 24, 2016 | News, Own news | Electoral RightsUnder the Long-term Electoral Assistance to the Election Related Stakeholders of Armenia Project, on June 2-7, 2016, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor held seminars on the reflection of the recommendations of international observation missions in the new Election Code in Vanadzor Gyumri, Goris, Martuni and Yerevan cities and towns and a 2-day training on the new Election Code in Tsaghkadzor on June 9-10, 2016.
At the seminars attended by the representatives of stakeholder NGOs and other persons interested in electoral processes, Vardine Grigoryan, HCA Vanadzor Democracy Monitoring and Reporting Coordinator, and Daniel Ioannisyan, Program Coordinator of Union of Informed Citizens NGO, referred to the RA electoral legislation, history of elections, as well as reflection of the international standards and recommendations of international observation missions in the new Election Code.
During the 2-day final training, its participants examined thoroughly all the regulations of the new election code, especially the process of coordinating the voting, issues related to the processes preceding and following it, as well as provisions regarding elections to the National Assembly and elections held in individual communities. Armen Smbatyan, Secretary of the RA Central Electoral Commission, was among the invited guests of the 2-day training and he clarified the application of the new regulations established by the Election Code during the forthcoming elections of local government in autumn of 2016 and elections of the RA National Assembly in spring of 2017.
The project is ongoing; under the project, it is also intended to train observers and carry out observation mission at the upcoming elections.
