A ‘Heritage’ (‘Zharangutyun’) Party member was woken up and apprehended to the police and an electrician from Karnut village was apprehended on his way to Gyumri
11:10, July 18, 2016 | News, Other newsAs reported before, the police officers of ‘Kumayri’ Police Division in Gyumri entered early in the morning the houses of the activists of ‘Electric Gyumri’ movement combating the electricity price hike in the past year and summoned them to the police.
Some of the activists visited the police division and later stated that their conversation with the police officers was very short as, according to them, they had no topic to talk about. Since early morning, Yeghishe Sharyan, a ‘Heritage’ (‘Zharangutyun’) Party member, has been detained at ‘Kumayri’ Police Division. Yeghishe’s brother waiting for him in front of the premises of the police, said that some police officers entered their house early in the morning as they were still asleep and upon waking up Yeghishe, took him to the police division.
The activists alerted the Human Rights Defender, since not only have the police officers kept Yeghishe at the police division illegally for over 10 hours, but also lied that he was released. Upon waiting for quite a long time, the representative of the Human Rights Defender’s Office entered the premises of the police division. Yeghishe Sharyan has not been released yet. Sevak Khachatryan, electrician from Karnut village, was also apprehended to ‘Kumayri’ Police Division in Gyumri. According to his family, once he supported the ‘Pre-parliament’ civil initiative and that was the most likely reason underlying his summons to the police. S. Khachatryan drove to the Electric Networks Office in Gyumri on business; most likely, police officers followed and apprehended him on his way. His car was parked near the premises of the police. Armen Nersisyan, lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute of Gyumri, who supported the ‘Pre-parliament’ initiative for a short time, was apprehended to ‘Mush’ Police Division of Gyumri.
Note that his colleague demographer Artashes Boyajyan, lecturer at the higher educational institution above, was also summoned to the police and released after 5 hours. In his interview to us, he said that years ago he once attended a meeting of the ‘Pre-parliament’ initiative. We have just received an alert that the police officers blocked the street in front of “Kumayri’ Police Division and started shoving the activists waiting outside.
