Artur Sakunts: “We should support rather than provoke”
18:17, July 18, 2016 | News, Other news“I wouldn’t like to separate the representatives of the armed group or the police officers, since first of all, the both parties are victims. They are victims of the situation which the authorities shaped due to their irresponsible policy”, human rights activist Artur Sakunts stated at the meeting with journalists at ‘Media Center’ on July 18.
He likened the incident to the relations between a convict and staff at the penitentiary facilities when the convict has no way out but self-injury or violation of the regime rules. “We must find a way out of the current situation; the main lesson learned should be as follows: the violent methods applied so far may not serve a solution to get out of this situation. I believe no matter how long it takes, a dialogue should be built and negotiations should be held and the issues should be resolved by these means, so that we refrain from any further possible casualties.”
Artur Sakunts believes that the solution to this situation will have a certain influence on the further processes. “I don’t want to detail on the causes, as considering the causes we will apply decent and legal methods. I think that the current situation at least, provides grounds to assume that no force was used throughout the night; this fact is very essential. Also, another essential fact is that one of the hostages was released. I think that this attitude and this approach should be upheld and we should support, rather than provoke by condemning anyone or seeking those who is to blame, since, in fact, all of us are to blame.”
