Protection of the rights of persons with mental health problems continues to be in the focus of HCA Vanadzor
16:05, June 28, 2016 | News, Own newsOn June 21, 2016, Kapan town of Syunik marz (region) hosted a training-discussion on the Rights of Persons with Mental Health Problems and Prevention of Discrimination held with the support of the Open Society Foundations-Armenia and Sigrid Rausing Trust.
The training was attended by representatives of the marz (regional) neuro-psychiatric dispensary, regional centers of medical and social support, the police, the Public Defender’s Office in Kapan as well as of Syunik Regional Governor’s Office (marzpetaran) and municipality of Kajaran.
Anahit Chilingaryan, Legal Analysis and Initiatives Coordinator at HCA Vanadzor, and Marietta Temuryan, Monitoring Specialist, introduced the human rights protection mechanisms, discrimination and its types and the issues of persons with mental health problems.
The knowledge and skills on the topics discussed were enhanced through practical activities.
According to the participants, such knowledge and skills are applicable in their work, and such meetings should be held regularly.
Protection of the rights of persons with mental health problems ranges among the directions of the activities of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor. In this field, the Organization carries out monitoring, submits legislative proposals, provides necessary counseling and conducts awareness campaigns, namely trainings and discussions.
