Appointment of the Military Prosecutor as Prosecutor General is illogical, human rights activist
09:22, October 16, 2013 | News | Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Civil Control“A more experienced deputy of the Prosecutor General and not Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan should have been appointed for the position of the Prosecutor General”, stated human rights activist Artur Sakunts in a talk with mamul.am media outlet reporter.
It is noteworthy that yesterday on September 26 President Serzh Sargsyan nominated the candidacy of Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan to the National Assembly for the position of the RA Prosecutor General.
According to Artur Sakunts, appointment of the Military Prosecutor as Prosecutor General is illogical. “Kostanyan has nothing to do in the Prosecutor’s office. The other deputies of the Prosecutor General are more experienced in terms of good command of the prosecutorial system. They are more adept at the whole methodology”, stated Sakunts. Whereas, by his words Gevorg Kostanyan has been working in the prosecutorial system only for two years. In the meantime, the human rights activist notes that overall whoever is nominated, the latter will carry out the demands of the political authorities.
In this respect, in Sakunts’ opinion, G. Kostanyan enjoys even greater advantage. “Gevorg Kostanyan will try to seem more catholic that the Pope of Rome. If there is any political order, demand, he will seek to do more that the demand implies. Thus, the much greater disasters than before await the Prosecutor General’s office”, noted Sakunts. What is the President’s decision to appoint Kostanyan for the position of the Prosecutor General conditioned by, Artur Sakunts replied, “The decision was reached not based on his professional features but based on how close are the relations of the person with “the king”, the human rights activist wrapped up his speech.
