HCA Vanadzor statement on disappearance of Bahraini civic activist Fadhel Radhi
14:54, February 1, 2016 | Announcements, OwnBahraini civic activist Fadhel Radhi detained at ‘Nubarashen’ penitentiary should have been released on January 30, 2016 due to expiry of the detention period.
Upon finding out at ‘Nubarashen’ penitentiary that F. Radhi would be released after relevant documentation procedure at 12 pm, his lawyer called at the penitentiary at 11:30 am, but the penitentiary officers informed him that Fadhel Radhi’s “friends” had already come and taken him away.
We are not aware of who these “friends” are and have received no information on the whereabouts of Fadhel Radhi so far.
We hereby restate that as a member state of the Council of Europe, the Republic of Armenia should not extradite Fadhel Radhi to Kingdom of Bahrain since he might suffer torture there, and the Republic of Armenia would be directly responsible for that.
The extradition might also pose a threat to Fadhel Radhi’s life since Kingdom of Bahrain has not abolished death penalty yet. We hereby require that the RA authorities, particularly the RA National Security Service and the RA Police make public information on the whereabouts of Fadhel Radhi and the decision on his extradition.
