Last night Gevorg Safaryan was subjected to violence yet once again

Last night an emergency call was received, indicating that member of the political union New Armenia Gevorg Safaryan, who was convicted for his political views, was subjected to beating by the other convicts in his cell at Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution.
Gevorg Safaryan was arrested on the charge of using violence against a police officer on January 1, 2016, after the attempt to place a Christmas tree at the Freedom Square. This attempt was interfered harshly by the police officers.
Out of the 4 detainees only G. Safaryan was convicted and sentenced to 2 years in prison on January 16, 2017.
There were previous cases of violence against him recorded in the penitentiary institution as well as in the court building.
HCA Vanadzor strongly condemns the use of violence against G. Safaryan and states that the RA authorities should bear the responsibility if harm is inflicted on G. Safaryan’s life or health.
