Urgent assembly against accession to the Customs Union
09:12, December 2, 2013 | Announcements, News, Own, Own news | Freedom of Assembly and Association, Freedom of Movement, Right to liberty and security | PoliceToday on the morning of December 2, 2013 the RA police officials apprehended a group civil activists including Olya Azatyan, Zaruhi Hovhannisyan, Artur Avtandilyan, Artur Poghosyan and other, who are being detained at Yerevan Kentron and Shengavit departments of the RA Police. In the meantime, the same day on December 2, 2013 a notification regarding holding an urgent assembly against the decision of the membership of the Republic of Armenia to the Customs Union was submitted to the Yerevan city department of the RA Police and Yerevan Municipality. Moreover, according to trustworthy sources, Yerevan department Deputy Chief of the RA Police V. Osipyan informed the assembly participants they were not allowed to leave the territory of Liberty square and proceed marching.
Despite the official statements issued by the RA Police, we assess such a working style of the RA Police as apparently illegal directed at impediment of exercising of citizens’ right to freedom of expression and assembly.
We strongly condemn any action of the RA Police targeted at the restriction of RA citizens’ right to freedom of expression and assembly, we demand to urgently stop such actions and release illegally apprehended RA citizens.
