Prosecutor instructed to resume proceedings on the case of Mkhitar Sargsyan, who died at detention facilities, only 2 month after its suspension
12:24, September 20, 2016 | News, Own news | Detention FacilitiesWe have reported before that on September 8, 2016, Tatevik Siradeghyan, lawyer at Yerevan Office of HCA Vanadzor and representative of the victim’s successor, appealed the investigator’s decree on suspending due to absence of any identified accused person the criminal proceedings on causing Mkhitar Sargsyan, who died at detention facilities, to commit a suicide.
The appeal particularly stated that the data obtained during the preliminary investigation were not enough to conclude that M. Sargsyan was deprived of life by committing suicide, the more so given that the forensic medical expert examination questioned the hypothesis of M. Sargsyan’s suicide. The appeal also provided the required investigative and procedural actions to obtain significant evidence for the outcome of the case, including a posthumous forensic medical expert examination to determine M. Sargsyan’s inclination to suicide.
Today, the response of Yerevan Prosecutor’s Office has already been received stating that only almost 2 months after suspension of the criminal proceedings was the prosecutor supervising this criminal case suspended on June 30, 2016 instructed to annul the decree on suspending the proceedings and carry out a number on investigative and procedural actions, and as of September 1, 2016, the investigator’s decree on suspending the criminal proceedings is annulled.
