Massive Deforestation in Lori
00:00, July 13, 2011 | NewsOn July 13, 2011, massive logging of pines was underway along the slopes of the highway near Lori region Lermontovo and Antarashen villages.
As it could be inferred from the posted signboard, logging was allowed. But the order of logging was subject to doubt. The point is that the logged trees, as seen in the photos, are young pines. Besides, the signboard said that 405 pines must be logged, out of which 43.78 cubic meters for construction, 44.71 cubic meters for fuel. The chainsaw could be heard working from the depth of the forest.
The law-enforcement bodies, Environmental Protection Inspection and in the first place “Hayantar” SNCO must reveal who needed such large number of construction wood that provided a logging permit.
It is curious to observe that the workmen in the photos taken by our reporters used alcohol /bear and vodka/ during the deforestation activities. Did they have an issued permit for that too?
