Summer Course of International Humanitarian Law
00:00, August 3, 2010 | Press ReleaseA five-day summer course on “International Humanitarian Law” was organized in Yerevan on July 26-30. The course, where the representatives of HCA Vanadzor participated, was organized for different NGOs and students.
Lecturers from Yerevan State University, American University of Armenia, representatives from RA Constitutional court, the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs of Belarus, the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia and other organizations were involved in the summer course.
During those five days the participants were familiarized with the history of the international humanitarian law, the provisions of the Geneva and Hague Conventions, the additional protocols, prohibition and restriction of certain means of performing military actions, and with the legal protection of cultural values during hostilities.
The participants were presented with information on the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, its principles and the activity of the Red Cross in Armenia.
After each lecture the participants had discussions, reviews and role plays.
On the last day of the summer course, on July 30, a competition of “International Humanitarian Law Challenge” took place, which enabled every participant to check their knowledge gained during those five days.
The summer course was organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the
American University of Armenia.
