Working Meeting on the Results of the Monitoring of Spring Recruitment in Lori Region
00:00, November 22, 2008 | News | Rights of Soldiers/RecruitsOn November 21, 2008 a working meeting took place in the office of HCA Vanadzor within the framework of the project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process.”
The participants were Arthur Sakunts, the coordinator of HCA Vanadzor, Gagik Harutyunyan, the head of recruitment department of RA Military Commissariat, Georgi Harutyunov, the head of recruitment department of Tashir, Zhirayr Karapetyan, the head of recruitment department of Stepanavan, Kamo Yerknapeshyan, the head of recruitment department of Tumanyan region, Misha Abgaryan and Aren Sargsyan, the head of recruitment department and the head of recruitment group of Vanadzor, Spartak Ghubatyan, the military commissar of Spitak and Sargis Galstyan, the advisor to the governor of Lori region.
The goal of the meeting was to summarize the results of the monitoring carried out in Lori region during the spring call-up, to discuss the problems evolved during the recruitment and to find effective ways to solve them.
At the beginning of the meeting, Arthur Sakunts presented the project objectives, in particular, the procedure of medical examination, the study of the level of awareness of recruits about their rights and responsibilities, as well as the analysis of the legislation regulating the recruitment process.
“We as well attach importance to the recruits being aware. The whole picture of our society can be seen in the army. Not being aware of the law by a citizen does not free him from executing his duties”- mentioned the head of the recruitment department of RA Military Commissariat.
Issues related to the registration of recruits, informing them, organization of the medical examination, getting a postponement, citizenship and freedom to get information, as well as further steps were discussed during the meeting.
“The project idea is quite promising, as we have a joint goal to solve the problem”-said Arthur Sakunts.
At the end of the discussion, the participants spoke about the importance of bilateral approach towards the revealed problems so that the study can be more effective, objective and predictable.
The project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process” is being implemented by HCA Vanadzor with support of Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation-Armenia.
