The goal of the press conference was to present the project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process” that is being implemented with support of Open Society Institute Assistance – Armenia.
Speaking about the project goal and objectives, A. Sakunts mentioned that, basically, this is the first time such a project has been implemented in Armenia, which includes the process of attachment, notification, medical examination, attitude of employees of military commissariats and medical commissions towards the recruits and their relatives. He added that during the project, recruits and their relatives would be provided with juridical consultation in Vanadzor, Alaverdi, Spitak, Stepanavan and Tashir towns of Lori region with the aim of protecting their violated rights.
The project, started on April 1, 2008, will last one year and the reports made at then of the project will be sent to the Ministry of Defence and military commissariats. Apart from this, the public will get information about the process of recruitment through TV programs organized in five towns of Lori region.
According to Arthur Sakunts, the mechanisms formed during this project can have their continuation in the activities, directed towards formation of civil control, held within the NATO program “Partnership for Peace” where Armenia took commitments.
