The First Training of South Caucasus Human Rights School Started
00:00, April 15, 2006 | Press ReleaseOn April 9, the international training for right defenders of South Caucasus countries opened in Tsakhkadzor.
HCA Vanadzor holds “South Caucasus Human Rights School” jointly with Helsinki Foundation on Human Rights with the support of Interchurch Peace Council (IKV) and ICCO. 27 right defenders, journalists, NGO representatives from Armenia , Georgia , Azerbaijan , Abkhazia, Nagorno Karabakh, South Ossetia participate in the school. HCA Vanadzor invited the representatives of Helsinki Foundation of Human Rights who will present the understanding and history of human rights, the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights protection. During the six-day course, young right defenders from conflict zones will get familiar with the methods and mechanisms of human rights protection. Ina Hayrapetyan from Chechnya will present a report on rights to fair trial, free movement, freedom of conscience and religion. The representative of the organization “Echo of War” from Grozni will also get the participants familiar with the rights of refugees. The participants will have the opportunity to watch films on human rights and get literature on human rights defence, monitoring of fair trials and human rights. The representatives of the organizations of HCA South Caucasus network will make reports on human rights protection in their regions and the work carried out in this direction. The first participants of South Caucasus Human Rights School will master the skills of human rights monitoring, methods and peculiarities of making reports on human rights protection. After that, the participants will present HCA Vanadzor their reports on the situation of human rights in their regions, which will be one of the most important results of the school.
