09:35, June 25, 2013 | Press Release | The Rights of Conflict VictimsMillions of families have lost their homes to violence and war.
One refugee family without shelter is too many. As a contribution to the World Refugee Day which is honoured throughout the world on the 20th June the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor contributes a photo exhibition about refugees in Armenia.
The aim of the project is to raise awareness about refugees in Armenia and especially in Lori region. This is achieved by featuring personal stories behind the displayed individuals. Their stories got accompanied by general information about refugees worldwide and in the Caucasian Region.
The opening “Forced migration – refugees in Armenia” took place in the Culture Palace of Vanadzor on the 22nd of June. The exhibition attracted some media and large number of local schoolchildren. The event was attended by about 100 people, many from different countries, including the USA, Georgia, Spain, Italy and Germany.
“I really like how the black and white photographs capture the human side of the issue. I had no idea there are so many refugees in Armenia.”, says Debra Taylor-Cragg, a Peace Corps Volunteer from the United States of America.
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor invites everyone to visit the public exhibition “Forced Migration – refugees in Armenia”. The exhibition will last until June 28th.
The event was organised by the EVS volunteers who live and work in Vanadzor within the framework of the Youth-in-action Program, with the support from IREX (International Research and Exchanges Board).
