Artur Sakunts: “The police should substantiate why it apprehends a person.”
18:22, July 18, 2016 | News, Other newsShortly before, 9 persons were apprehended from Khorenatsi Street. Human rights activist Artur Sakunts stated that the police had no right to do so, and in general, police officers should issue a legal order to the person and substantiate why he/she is apprehended and in which status: that of a witness, suspect or accused. “The police fail to observe all these regulations and in this case, based on the identities of the persons who were apprehended I can say that the police officers apprehend people by their lists compiled in relation with the events. This is merely violence, pressure and intimidation. In this particular case, the citizens did not take any steps; their actions are legitimate but the intervention by the police is excessive”, Sakunts said.
