“Disgrace” and “Russian cynicism”: Armenia is outraged by the women’s dressing gown of the “Kamaz” driver
10:41, July 18, 2013 | NewsThe Armenian Ombudsman requests the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia to figure out why the alleged perpetrator of the bloody road accident in New Moscow is being degraded.
Human rights defender Karen Andreasyan requests that his Russian colleague Vladimir Lukin clarifies why the alleged perpetrator of the terrible car accident near Podolsk, where 16 people got killed, appeared before the court in a woman’s dressing gown.
Direct citation from Karen Andreasyan’s letter, “Citizen of the Republic of Armenia Hrachya Harutyunyan, accused in breach of traffic rules, which caused the death of two or more persons, appeared before the court on July 15, in degrading appearance: namely, in a women’s dressing gown.”
In her turn, the daughter of the alleged perpetrator of the road accident in New Moscow called on not to judge her father ahead of time, and reminded that anyone could appear in the same situation.
Lilit Harutyunyan: “The driver did not violate the traffic rules, it’s not his fault that the brakes did not work … That’s enough to criticize people who try to earn an honest living and end up in a tragic situation.”
It is noteworthy that the case of 46-year-old Harutyunyan and his appearance before the court in woman’s attire has caused an uproar in the Armenian society. Human rights activist Arthur Sakunts labeled such a treatment in relation to the driver as a “disgrace” and degradation of human dignity, reports Tert.am.
Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, “The person with health issues, without adequate medical care being provided to him, was led into the courtroom in a woman’s dressing gown – this is an approach of human dignity humiliation.”
While, in his article on “Russian cynicism” journalist Harutyun Harutyunyan blamed the fatal accident on those who didn’t hurry with the installation of traffic lights in a dangerous place.
