An order not to appeal
00:00, September 5, 2011 | Press Release | Right to Life | PoliceIt has been one month and advocate Edmon Marukyan has not been allowed the opportunity to appeal against the resolution of the Special Investigation Service (SIS), which continually justifies the actions of the police in a recent shooting case. Edmon Marukyan is the advocate and representative of the family of Arman Yengibaryan who was killed on June 15, 2011 by a gun shot fired by a policeman near the entrance of Yerevan “Garegin Nzhdeh Square” Metro Station.
An Investigation has been made in the SIS in regards to Yengibaryan’s murder, and as a result of which the policeman’s actions were assessed as legitimate and the case was closed. Advocate Edmon Marukyan heard about it only after the publication of “Armenian Zhamanak”. After being introduced to the publication on August 6, 2011 he turned to the investigator asking him to provide him with the resolution of the case in order to have an opportunity to appeal against it, however, the investigator never reacted to his letter.
“On August 22, 2011, I wrote an application on the inactivity of the investigator to the RA Prosecutor General and asked him to take measures in order that the investigator be provided with the resolution of the dismissed case, although up until this time an answer has not been been received from the Prosecutor General”, stated Marukyan. Now the advocate is going to apply to the court in order to get the case dismissed by court order.
