Artur Sakunts, “Will the Police Officer on Operative Cases Waste the 500 dollars alone?”
00:00, July 18, 2011 | News | Police, Prevention of CorruptionYesterday a criminal case was filed at Special Investigation Service against Senior Lieutenant Stepan Simonyan, Senior Police Officer on operative cases from Unit 3 of Yerevan Police Department Criminal Investigation Division with features of Part 1 of Article 311 of RA Criminal Code. (“Taking bribes by a state official”). The latter is charged with receiving 500 USD bribe from a citizen.
By explaining the situation, Artur Sakunts, head of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor told 1in.am that “major criminals struggle against minor ones” by proving in this manner that they are honest.
“They periodically try to prove as if they are combating corruption through such cases. They put officials holing lower positions under arrest”, stated Sakunts by underlining that in fact it is an imitated struggle. According to him, those people not only take the role of a “scapegoat”, but also devastate their destiny by hiding major corruption system.
“Will the police officer on operative cases waste the 500 dollars alone? Of course, no”, added the human rights activist.
