14:43, February 14, 2012 | News | Electoral RightsThe elections of the mayor of Hrazdan Community commenced today (02.12.2012) at 8:00 a.m. Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, Artur Sakunts is observing elections at 25/06 polling station.
Speaking of election violations, he said that during the morning hours, there were two proxies of the incumbent candidate, Aram Danielyan, and one of them left the station upon recommendation from the chairman of the commission.
The human rights activist commented that the law did not allow two proxies of the same candidate to be present at the station.
Sakunts indicatedthat the election process proceeded normally, without any serious election fraud.
Artur Sakunts, who is observing elections at the 25/06 polling station of Hrazdan Community, was concerned that there were polling stations where people were brought in by car, and the members of the election commissions were employees of the municipalities.
“At this moment, the biggest concern is the issue of temporary stamps. The identification document of the voting person is not stamped to avoid double voting. Thus, the fact that the stamps were not mandatory was risky,” concluded A. Sakunts.
The member of oppositional ANC, Sasun Mikayelyan, and the incumbent mayor, Arman Danielyan, who is a member of the RPA, finished their pre-election meetings 2 days ago and are waiting for the preliminary results of the elections.
The incumbent mayor of Hrazdan has been in office for 10 years and the opposition candidate, Sasun Mikayelyan was the mayor from 1996-1999.
Both candidates promise residents of Hrazdan a prosperous and respectable life.
