11:08, December 21, 2017 | News, Own newsOn December 16, 2017 HCA Vanadzor hosted Catalan activist Neus Rosell. The latter has been a participant in the recent civil movement in Catalonia.
She presented the history of Catalonia from its foundation to the Thirty Years’ War, which, as stated by Neus, was a turning point in the history of Catalonia.
Neus also touched upon the significant events in the history of Catalonia, namely Miguel Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship, the Second Spanish Republic and Francisco Franco’s dictatorship.
In the context of the civil movement in Catalonia since the early 2000s, Neus touched upon the Catalan independence referendums of 2014-2016.
During the recent referendum held on October 1, 2017, more than 90% of Catalan voters supported independence. However, following Catalonia’s declaration of independence on October 27, the Spanish authorities dismissed the Catalan government. After Catalan President Carles Puigdemont left for Brussels, protests broke out all over the country, which were suppressed by the Spanish police through violent methods.
The next Catalan parliamentary elections are scheduled for today, December 21.
