Killing People is Easier
00:00, July 14, 2011 | NewsWho and why gave permit to cut 405 firs?
On the highway Vanadzor-Dilijan, near Antarashen Village, mass logging of firs is underway, and judging by the sign, logging will continue.
Yesterday our reporter visited the scene. A big sign is posted to one of the firs with the note “Logging permit N46, number of pines 405, 43.78 cubic meters for building, 44.71 cubic meters for fuel”. Workers were loading the lorry with fir logs. A group of men were nearby, we asked them to show the permit, they pointed to the sign.
Giant pines are cut in large numbers, and people around said, it is legal, nowadays it is easier to get rid of a dead man than to cut a tree, in broad daylight, at the highway.
Ranger Samson Poghosyan said the logging is legal and all the documents are in place. He said the permit was issued a week ago. He didn’t know or didn’t want to say who the trees are being cut for. He assured that he supervised the workers to cut the right trees. The logs and trees are all numbered. We couldn’t find out who ordered the logging. Surprisingly, now it’s in fashion to burn fire on fir.
