Meeting Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights at HCA Vanadzor
13:13, October 13, 2014 | News, Own news | The Resolutions And The Liabilities of Euro CouncilOn October 8, 2014, the representatives of the NGOs in the Lori Region gathered at the HCA Vanadzor to meet the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Nils Muižnieks.
The meeting was also attended by Oleksandr Pavlyuk, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to Armenia, as well as Kristine Mardirosyan, Jennifer Poinsot and Bojana Urumova, representatives of the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Office.
During the meeting of about 2 hours, the participants presented and discussed the situation related to the equality of men and women in the region and in the republic in general, the enforcement of the RA Law on Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women and the issues related to the adoption of the Anti-Discrimination Law.
The participants also referred to the issues of the judiciary and the judicial situation.
The NGOs raised a number of issues on the human rights situation in the armed forces, particularly the issues related to investigating death cases and ill-treatment as well as incidences of ill-treatment of citizens at the police departments and legal protection possibilities for persons with disabilities.
The meeting also featured the practices of effective investigation by the RA Special Investigation Service into the incidences of violence against citizens by the police.
The Council of Europe Commissioner expressed his willingness to provide necessary assistance in the resolution of specific issues as well.
