October 1 is celebrated as the International Day of Older Persons.
Presently, Armenia is considered an aging country, as the rate of population above 60 increases every year.
This rate is also accompanied with the increasing rate of the elderly persons residing in the RA institutions providing social security and care services for lonely and disabled elderly persons.
Currently 8 institutions providing social security and care services for lonely and disabled elderly persons operate in the Republic of Armenia. Such institutions are homes for 1250 elderly persons and provide day care services to other 2750 elderly persons.
Note that it has been a months since the HCA Vanadzor started monitoring the 8 institutions above.
The monitoring aims to detect the human rights situation in the nursing homes in the Republic of Armenia.
