Response of the RA Police General Investigation Department to Application on Political Prisoners
13:28, April 21, 2014 | News, Own news | Right to Fair Trial | Police, Political PrisonersAs we have already informed, HCA Vanadzor and a number of other non-governmental organizations applied to the RA Human Rights Defender, RA Prosecutor General and the Chair of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Elinar Vardanyan to seek consistently proper investigation procedures for the fabricated criminal cases against political prisoners and immediate termination of their political persecution.
We have also presented the responses by the RA Human Rights Defender and the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Elinar Vardanyan and mentioned that we had no feedback from the RA Prosecutor General. Nowadays, HCA Vanadzor received the response of the Unit for Cases of Particular Importance under the General Investigation Department of RA Police.
The official letter stated that all the measures stipulated under the RA Criminal Procedure Code had been taken during the preliminary investigation; both grounds supporting the guilt of the defendants and mitigating circumstances were considered to ensure a comprehensive, thorough and impartial examination of their cases.
The letter also mentioned that the criminal case against Volodya Avetisyan involved no defendant with the data provided.
The last statement appears definitely unintelligible since there is no reference to any other person within the criminal case against Volodya Avetisyan in the application, and the reply by the Head of the Unit for Cases of Particular Importance under the General Investigation Department of RA Police has no relevance to the subject matter of the application.
We hereby present the letter of the Unit for Cases of Particular Importance under the General Investigation Department of RA Police.
P.S. Days ago, the RA Human Rights Defender’s Office contacted the HCA Vanadzor to inform that since the criminal cases of the political prisoners had already been sent to court, the Ombudsman’s Office was no longer competent to deal with them. We will provide details later on.
