The Court of Appeal rejected the complaint on journalist Arpi Makhsudyan’s case
19:31, July 3, 2018 | News, Own newsToday, on July 3, 2018, the RA Criminal Court of Appeal rejected the complaint filed by journalist Arpi Makhsudyan and HCA Vanadzor Chairman Artur Sakunts. A complaint was filed with the Court against the decision of June 27, 2017 on terminating the criminal case initiated on the basis of the report on the actions of the police officers who had entered the journalist’s house in last year’s May.
It should be recalled that the police officers entered the journalist’s house at around 7.30 am on May 11, 2017 and tried to carry out a search. Encountering resistance, they threatened to take A. Makhsudyan’s father-in-law to the police station, intimidated her family members and left by voicing threats only when the journalist tried to call the police.
On the basis of the crime report submitted by HCA Vanadzor in respect to the incident, a criminal case was initiated at the RA Special Investigation Service. Later, on June 27, 2017, it was terminated.
HCA Vanadzor advocate Ani Chatinyan, who is A. Makhsudyan’s representative, first filed a complaint with the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun Administrative Districts against the decision of June 27, 2017 on terminating the criminal case and then, after receiving a rejection on November 30, 2017, filed an appeal with the RA Criminal Court of Appeal.
After receiving the decision from the RA Criminal Court of Appeal, a cassation appeal is to be filed against it.
