The Methods, Mechanisms and Tools for Right Protection
00:00, February 20, 2007 | Press ReleaseOn February 22, a 4-day seminar on “The Methods, Mechanisms and Tools for Right Protection” will be launched in Vanadzor. 16 new volunteers of HCA Vanadzor selected from Spitak, Stepanavan, Tashir, Alaverdi and Vanadzor towns of Lori region will take part in the training.
During the 4-day seminar the participants will get familiar with the methods, national and international mechanisms of human rights protection and the experience of international organizations.
Narine Rshtuni, representative of Civil Society Institute, Avetik Ishkhanyana and Lilit Simonyan from Armenian Helsinki Committee will be involved as trainers. Narine Rshtuni will present the main understandings and the history of Human Rights. Avetik Iskhanyan and Lilit simonyan will get the participants familiar with the guarantees of Human Rights protection, national and international mechanisms, the functions, the role and impact of international organizations.
After the seminar Avetik Ishkhanyan will present the situation of human rights in Armenia.
The training will be organized within the framework of the project “Capacity Building of HCA Vanadzor in the Sphere of Right Protection” implemented by HCA Vanadzor.
It is foreseen to have a group of 16 right defenders who will then be taught the methods and mechanisms of human rights monitoring. Then they will monitor human rights in closed and semi-closed institutions (children’s homes, houses for elderly people, psychiatric hospitals, and detention places) of Lori region.
The project is implemented with support from Open Society Institute and The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
