The International Children’s Day was established by the Women’s International Democratic Federation in Paris in 1949 and was first celebrated in 1950.

The Republic of Armenia joined the Convention on the Rights of the Child on June 1, 1992 by recognizing the child’s right to grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding for the full and harmonious development of his or her personality. The child should be protected against all forms of violence and the State should ensure the exercise of all the child’s rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Every 5 years, the State submits to the Committee, through the Secretary-General, reports on the measures they have adopted which give effect to the rights recognized in the Convention and on the progress made on the enjoyment of those rights.

The issues related to child’s right to quality education especially in rural and remote areas, poor conditions of school buildings and classrooms and the lack of the necessary number of quality teaching staff still raise concern.

Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor also examines some facts of violations of children’s rights.

Currently, the Organization processes 2 cases on crimes against children at educational institutions and 4 cases on protection of the right to life of children under 4. The cases are provided below.
