The Young Peace-builders will Study the Problems of Conflict Victims
00:00, November 27, 2008 | NewsThe young peace-builders met again in Tbilisi. 26 young peace-builders from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh, who came together with the help of HCA Vanadzor, got acquainted with the skills of monitoring, were informed about the techniques of taking an interview.
During the upcoming 3 months the young peacebuilders are going to visit the families of Karabakh conflict victims – refugees, missing persons and former prisoners of war.
During the meetings with the former prisoners of war, who lost their relatives or houses, the young peacebuilders will study their living conditions, will talk about their main problems – social, health, economic and psychological difficulties, will collect their suggestions on the solutions with the aim of presenting them to the Armenian and Azerbaijani governments in the future.
The project “Formation of a Brigade of Young Peacebuilders” is being implemented with the support of the Embassy of Great Britain in Armenia.
It aims at raising the role of youth in the peace processes of the Karabakh conflict and extending their effective participation.
“First of all it is necessary to find out the problems of conflict victims in order to decide about the solutions to their problems”- mentioned Avaz Hasanov, the head of Human Research Association of Azerbaijan. He familiarized the participants with the methods of monitoring and its peculiarities.
Armenian and Azerbaijani young peacebuilders were informed about the activities of international organizations dealing with the problems of conflict victims. The International Committee of the Red Cross, Glassen Group play an important role in returning the hostages to their countries and in spreading peace.
“Our purpose is to achieve clarity, transparency on finding out the problems of conflict victims, on returning them or on issues related to solving their problems more objectively and supporting them” – mentioned Arthur Sakunts, the coordinator of HCA Vanadzor.
Nineli Andriadze, the coordinator of “Molodini” foundation, presented the young peacebuilders with her own practice.
This Georgian organization, dealing with the problems of Georgian-Abkhazian war victims supported the solution of not only Georgian victims’, but also Abkhazian’s problems by cooperating with Abkhazian partners.
The young peacebuilders visited the “Missing Persons” museum in Tbilisi where, Nineli Andriadze, the founder of Georgian “Molodini” foundation told about the victims of Russian-Georgian conflict that took place in August, showed the photos of victims and talked about peace-building processes.
The brigade of young peacebuilders watched the film “Hope Dies Last” by Suzanne Kroger. The film is about the hope and belief of Armenian, Kharabakhi and Azerbaijani families of missing persons.
The participating young people will present the monitoring results to HCA Vanadzor within three months. The monitoring results will be published in Russian and English. The booklet will be presented to the Armenian and Azerbaijani governments with the aim of getting solution the problems.
