We Assert
00:00, March 25, 2011 | AnnouncementsRaffi Hovhannisyan is on the ninth day of his hunger strike at Freedom Square. We, the undersigned, approve of his actions and share the concerns which led him to this mission.
The attitude of the authorities over the situation compels us to stand up with a claim. From the moment Raffi Hovhannisyan undertook his peaceful yet life-threatening hunger strike, the authorities spentevery effort to degrade and defeat his energies. The authorities carry out their tactics either directly via police forces or indirectly via mass media, favorable to the government’s position.
With this petition, we demand that our compatriot’s rights and dignity be protectedas every citizen rightfully and unconditionallydeserves.
We assert:
1. that the RA authorities and the police, in particular, immediately apologize for consistently and inhumanely violating Raffi Hovhannisyan’s rights by degrading his dignity with continuous infringements such as prohibiting the assembly of a tent and failing to provide adequate accommodations which impedeimplementation of his civil rights.
2.that necessary accommodations be provided; including assembly of appropriate tents in a prominent location in Liberty Square, vigilance of medical staff and, of utmost importance, a courteous and respectful attitude on behalf of the Police.
The petition is open for others to join.
