The awareness trainings for conscripts and servicemen continue
In the framework of the project “Human Rights Training for Conscripts”, the trainings conducted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor continued in Goris, Syunik Region and in Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor Region on June 17 and 18, 2018.

The first training of the project “Human Rights Training for Conscripts” commenced in Yerevan
The participants were mainly interested in the impartiality of choosing the place of performing military service by lot during the conscription and the corruption risks connected with it, the manifestations of unequal treatment when drawing lots, specific cases of deferment of compulsory military service, the structure of conscription, the issues relating to the structure of conscription committees as well as the amount of reimbursement for transportation costs given to servicemen in the case of basic leave being provided and other issues.
The project “Legal Clinic-2018” has commenced; the participants expect to become skilled in law and more competitive in the labor market
On May 25, 2018 the theoretical stage of the HCA Vanadzor project “Legal Clinic-2018” commenced in Dilijan.
In the framework of the three-day theoretical training, the participants gained general knowledge of human rights and mechanisms of their protection and then consolidated their knowledge through practical work.

Today, on June 7, 2018, the RA Administrative Court rejected the claim of the RA Police against Mashtots Avenue protester G. Tonoyan and upheld in part the counterclaim filed by G. Tonoyan and her representative T. Siradeghyan, lawyer at HCA Vanadzor’s representative office in Yerevan.

Today, on June 4, 2018, HCA Vanadzor advocate Ani Chatinyan, the representative of French-Armenian public figure Alexandre Varbedian, was informed in a phone call from the RA National Security Service that Al. Varbedian’s data were removed from the “data bank of the aliens considered undesirable in the territory of the RA.”

9 criminal cases have been initiated (or have been included in the already initiated criminal cases) on the basis of the 19 crime reports submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor in connection with the cases of police officers and persons in civilian clothing using violence against participants in the non-violent, peaceful protests and acts of civil disobedience from April 17 to 25, 2018 and journalists covering those events as well as hindering the movement of protesters.
Activists from the South Caucasus, the Czech Republic and Russia shared their experience in civic campaigns in the framework of the Civic BarCamp that took place in Vanadzor
From April 13 to 15, 2018, Civic BarCamp Vanadzor-2018 was held in Vanadzor upon the initiative of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor and the Czech organization NESEHNUTÍ – Independent Social Ecological Movement. For three consecutive days, around seventy activists from the South Caucasus, the Czech Republic and Russia shared their experience in civic campaigns and discussed the successful and unsuccessful examples.
