The First Round of Seminar-Training on “Advocates’ skills”
00:00, September 26, 2011 | Discussions | Right to liberty and securityOn September 24, 2011, a seminar-training on “Measures of restraint not connected with brining a person to Police, arresting and keeping him/her in detention” was held at Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor office, which was targeted for advocates, public defenders, and students. Advocates Edmon Marukyan and Ruben Hakobyan, members from the RA Chamber of Advocates, were enrolled as trainers.
Advocates, public defenders and students from Lori region, as well as lawyers from Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor including the ones from HCA’s representative offices in Tashir, Stepanavan, Alaverdi and Spitak participated in the training.
During the training, Edmon Marukyan and Ruben Hakobyan covered the grounds for bringing a person to Police, their rights as well as case law decisions taken by the RA Court of Cassation in relation to bringing a person to Police. By addressing the arrest of a person, the trainers presented the grounds of arrests, the order of appeals, the measures of restraint not connected with keeping a person in detention to the participants. At the end of the training, the participants were provided with a chance to share their accomplishments and achievements. Edmon Marukyan noted that the training over the issues of the criminal right would be continuous and was planned to be held each Saturday until November.
The training was aimed to introduce the new case laws of RA Court of Cassation and European Court of Human Rights, which would enable the participants to advance and unanimously discuss the issues attempting to reach solutions over them. The training is being carried out by the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative.
