Additional forensic examination to be assigned under Anzor Karapetyan’s case
15:25, March 22, 2016 | News, Own news | Detention FacilitiesHelsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor carries on protecting the rights of the successors to 21-year-old Anzor Karapetyan who died at Armavir penitentiary facilities on January 4, 2016.
Under the criminal proceedings initiated on the case, HCA Vanadzor lawyer Ani Chatinyan was declared representative of the successor to the victim and participates in the investigative and procedural actions under the investigation into the case.
As reported before, A. Karapetyan’s family, who attended the autopsy, did not consider the official hypothesis of his suicide plausible, referring to a number of circumstances revealed by the autopsy. On February 24, 2016, A. Chatinyan filed a motion on such circumstances to assign additional forensic examination. The motion particularly expressed disagreement with the expert opinion, since it was incomplete and contained unanswered questions that might be of substantial significance to the outcome of the case, and therefore, another examination should be assigned and additional questions should be addressed to experts.
In the motion above, the representative of the successor to the victim posed questions concerning A. Karapetyan’s injuries, the medical care he had received at the detention facilities and the new questions that arose from the forensic examination.
By its decree of March 8, 2016, Vagharshapat Investigative Division of Armavir Marz (Region) Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee granted the motion above.
Along with the motion on assigning an additional expert examination, another motion was filed on carrying out investigative activities; the investigative and procedural activities mentioned therein will have a positive effect on the outcome of the case.
