Since the Organization could not receive official information on the personal data from the Defense Ministry, it collected the data from the mass media and parents of the missing persons.
“At the moment, we have collected information on 21 servicemen. During our activities, we learnt that the bodies of 2 persons were found, and one missing person returned himself. It is essential that the families of the missing persons get at least some information; whoever we contacted had no official information”, Armine Sadikyan, Coordinator of Peace-building Projects of HCA Vanadzor said to A1+.
Did they compare their data and those of the RA Defense Ministry on the missing persons? Are such data the same or not?
“It is very possible that the list of the names to be published contains the names of some of the missing persons. Since the official information by the Defense Ministry does not cover exactly all the names, we cannot compare such lists.”
According to Armine Sadikyan, they also consider it essential to find out the detailed circumstances in which such persons went missing.
“In 1992-94, many people went missing, and their issue and the circumstances in which they went missing remain unknown. We do not want the same situation to recur; the families of such persons and the public at large have the right to be informed. Finally, the state is under obligation to their families.”
She also pointed out that in case there were any incidents under which certain persons should be brought to criminal liability, HCAV would take relevant steps. In fact, some time ago they initiated the Draft Law on Missing Persons, the adoption of which was considered not urgent by the Ministry of Justice.
