Updated Information on Contract Serviceman’s Death
13:05, January 28, 2015 | News, Own news | Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesAs mentioned in the Reference on the death cases in the RA Armed Forces and the NKR Defense Army, based on the survey of the HCA Vanadzor and published in January 2015, contract serviceman Vitalik Poghosyan was posthumously awarded a Medal for Service in Combat by the NKR Presidential Decree dated November 27, 2014. This was the only information on the person’s death.
The Reference also stated that in December of 2014, the HCA Vanadzor submitted an inquiry to the RA Ministry of Defense to find out details of the incident. However, the Ministry only informed the HCA Vanadzor that criminal proceedings were initiated on the death of the serviceman. As for the day of his death and the article under which the proceedings were instigated, the Ministry considered it to be confidential information.
Nevertheless, the Organization managed to find out some details about the incident from the response to its inquiry to the RA Military Prosecutor’s Office. According to the RA Military Prosecutor’s Office, Vitali Poghosyan /patronymic: Edik/ was killed by a gunshot from the Azerbaijani side on November 9, 2014 while performing engineering works in the rear of the combat position.
The Organization was also informed that on November 9, 2014, the First Garrison Investigation Department under the RA Investigation Committee Military Criminal Cases Department initiated a criminal case under Article 104(2)(13) of the RA Criminal Code, and the preliminary investigation was in progress.
