A case of Violation at Military Unit
00:00, July 18, 2011 | News | Right to be free from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesOn July 16, 2011, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor submitted a claim to RA Military Prosecutor’s Office, with the copies sent out to RA Ministry of Defense regarding the violations, tortures and inhumane treatment applied against a serviceman from 4th battalion located at Khachik village in Vayk.
For the protection of his son’s rights, R. Hovhannisyan turned to the organization and reported that a battalion official, noticing a cell-phone in his son’s hands, took it away from him and ordered to do exercises on his stomach as punishment. The boy refused to comply with the official order, after which he was subjected to beating, violations and inhumane treatment.
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor turned to RA Military Prosecutor’s Office with a claim to file a criminal case and provide the resolution over the report to the organization.
