New developments in the case of inciting serviceman Gevorg Khachatryan to commit suicide

On May 11, 2018, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Syunik Region of the RA continued the stage of the examination of evidence related to the case of inciting serviceman Gevorg Khachatryan to commit suicide.
It should be recalled that the previous court hearing was adjourned upon the motion of the accuser, namely S. Khachatryan, as the latter had the intention to submit a criminal report on the basis of the testimonies of the victims, witnesses and the defendant in the case.
The court announced that the RA Special Investigation Service terminated the proceedings initiated on the basis of the existence of alleged elements of a crime in the actions of the investigators carrying out the preliminary investigation of the case and the military police officers.
K. Barseghyan, who is the defender of M. Voskanyan’s interests, mentioned that, on the basis of the testimony given at the RA Special Investigation Service, M. Voskanyan reported details on the crime case, which, according to the content of the decision, had not been discussed, and expressed the opinion according to which the accuser in the case shall also submit a report to the competent authorities with regard to that matter. S. Khachatryan, the accuser, did not see the need to do it.
The representative of the victim’s legal successor, namely Tatevik Siradeghyan, who is a lawyer at HCA Vanadzor’s representative office in Yerevan, submitted a motion to additionally question H. Avetisyan, the victim’s legal successor, with regard to the certain circumstance revealed in the case.
The motion was upheld, and H. Avetisyan was questioned additionally.
Upon the motion of defendant H. Kalashyan’s defender, the proceedings of the case on the charge against his defendant under Article 364.1 of the RA Criminal Code were terminated on the basis of exceeding the statute of limitation.
The court rejected the motion filed by the defender of defendants H. Muradyan and M. Voskanyan in connection with questioning the investigator conducting the preliminary investigation, the members of G. Khachatryan’s (the victim) family, Deputy Chief of Outpost H. Vardanyan and the command staff of the military unit.
At the court hearing, the legal inquiries submitted by K. Barseghyan to the court were publicized. The motion to discuss them as evidence was rejected as well.
K. Barseghyan requested to provide time to submit other motions and to adjourn the court hearing.
The next court hearing was scheduled for 11.00 am on May 24, 2018.
