00:00, September 20, 2011 | Press Release | Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesHuman rights defenders-participants from “Army without Murderers” round-table discussion, held on September 14, are going to present their recommendations over amendments in the Army to RA Ministry of Defense within the upcoming week.
Artur Sakunts notified Medialab.am about it, by adding that many of proposals will be focusing on the incorporation of the Military Ombudsman Institute, insetting of a new institute as well as other recommendations regarding amendments in preliminary investigation procedures, and etc.
“Our demands are clear-cut, we should be provided with precise, logical and well-documented answers regarding the issues existing in the Army, and the RA Minister of Defense must notify us about the undertaken measures on case-by-case basis,” stated Sakunts warning to initiate various actions in case the aforementioned conditions were not satisfied.
As to the rumors that the huge clamor over the incidents in the Armenian army is instigated against Seyran Ohanyan, Sakunts considers them groundless. By Sakunts’ words, it is possible that the authors of such opinions are from Seyran Ohanyan’s circle, because according to him, the situation in the army is extremely poor, while Seyran Ohanyan is the RA Minister of Defense.
“Besides, the target of our criticism has changed and apart from the RA Minister of Defense, we also condemn the RA Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and we are going to voice about the resignation of the later and not Seyran Ohanyan,” noted the human rights activist.
Artur Sakunts pointed out the RA legislation does not obstruct the incorporation of a new institute in the Army. These days many people have expressed their standpoints over it.
The human rights activist noted that the RA Constitution does not envision restrictions over the number of Ombudsmen, which means, the legislation makes the investment of Military Ombudsman Institute feasible.
