The Problems the Youth are Concerned about
00:00, February 6, 2010 | Press ReleaseOn February 4, 2010 a youth discussion took place in Spitak office of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor.
The discussion was organized by the staff of Spitak office, which aimed to find out the role of the youth of Spitak in public life, to reveal the problems which were related to them, as well as to find out the solutions.
The coordinator of HCA Vanadzor, Artur Sakunts, the employees of Spitak office and young people from Spitak took part in the discussion.
During the discussion the participants pointed out the problems about which they are concerned. Among the main problems they mentioned cultural, social and economic problems in Spitak.
In the cultural sphere young people were concerned about the lack of the culture of having a leisure time. In fact, in Spitak there are very few entertainment places and such events are organized very rarely.
There were also some students among the participants of the discussion who expressed their displeasure about the fact that there are neither higher educational institutions nor specialised colleges in Spitak and they have to continue their studies in other towns of Armenia. The participants were dissatisfied with the teaching quality at schools, the lack of the variety of books at libraries, and the maltreatment of the staff.
As a major problem for the citizens in Spitak is the housing and occupation problem.
The citizens also lack in information. Particularly, mainly four TV channels are broadcasted and one of them, the local one, is rather inactive according to the young people. There is a local radio channel, which is also very passive.
During the discussion the participants pointed out several problems – pollution of the town, absence of lights, lack of public transportation and light flashes, poor conditions of roads, lack of play-grounds for children, etc.
For finding some solutions to those problems the participants decided to actively co-operate with HCA Vanadzor and Spitak offices, to organize discussions, events, awareness raising campaigns and involve others.
