According to Sakunts, only two amnesties were granted within two years
00:00, May 28, 2011 | NewsAccording to Artur Sakunts, both the 2009 amnesty and the general amnesty are directly linked to the political developments.
“Two of the amnesties are directly linked to the events after March 1, 2008. Two amnesties were granted within 2 years and there are reasons for that: it occurred as a result of internal oppressions, consistent struggles, and external demands”.
In Sakunts’ opinion, these activities addressed the resolution of political issues whether the political leaders of the Government will accept it or not. “The absence of political prisoners cannot serve as a pre-condition for the improvement of the tense atmosphereand initiations of political processes unless major issues are resolved, for instance, the investigation of the March 1 event”.
Human rights activist, Artur Sakunts believes that the freedom rights of those people were violated because they were not granted amnesty.
“Therefore, all the cases regarding obvious unlawful verdicts and illegal accusations should be reviewed and those people, who had not committed the crimes they were charged with, should be granted amnesty”.
