Announcement of HCA-Vanadzor about Mass Searches in Vanadzor
06:25, October 10, 2012 | Announcements | Right to Respect for Private and Family LifeAccording to reliable information received by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, on September 25 and 26, 2012, mass searches were carried out in the apartments of Vanadzor residents.
The majority of the inhabitants, avoiding persecution, are afraid to speak up about these facts. Only one of the citizens, member of Vanadzor City Council, Armen Ayvazyan spoke up about the fact.
Once again the Court of Common Jurisdiction of Lori, without considering justification of petition about the searches, confirming them, promotes searches in apartments of citizens irrelevant to criminal cases.
Once again the police use the “search operation” in order to prosecute, frighten, and intimidate citizens, “desperate” according to them. Such behavior both by the court and the police cannot contribute to increase of citizens’ trust towards them. Moreover, it leads to depreciation of the legal system.
HCA Vanadzor, condemning the use of mass searches, demands the General Prosecutor’s Office to bring this issue to examination.
