The Number of Deceased Servicemen in 2012 has no Relation with the number of those who died as a Result of Crimes Committed in the Armed Forces
08:12, January 23, 2013 | News | Right to Life, Rights of Soldiers/Recruits | Armed ForcesWith an aim to avoid discrepancy of opinions and taking into account the public interest, the Military Prosecutor’s Office provides the following clarification:
During the press conference convened by the RA Military Prosecutor on 17.01.2013, the number of mortality cases while taking up military service recorded in the Armed Forces during 2012 was published as 29. This number excludes the death cases not associated with taking up military service or other cases, which are incidents not containing crime features. For instance, a serviceman, who died as a result of a car (determined for his personal use) crash out of the military unit in a circumstance which was not anyhow associated with his military duties. Other non-combat cases have also been recorded when a serviceman became a victim of a crime perpetrated by civilians not related to the military service or when a serviceman died of a snake bite or as a result of other accidents.
We must restate that the criminality situation is described not by the number of individuals who d ed triggered by incidents not containing crime features or non-combat situations (accidents and crimes) but by the facts of criminal cases and quantity. Therefore, the number of death cases of servicemen in 2012 presented by several NGOs and published in the press has no relation with the number of those who died as a result of crimes committed in the RA Armed Forces.
