Evaluation is adequate
09:20, January 24, 2014 | News, Other newsHuman Rights Watch international human rights organization has released its regular annual report on human rights protection around the globe, where it also addressed the RA presidential and LSGB elections held last year, freedom of assembly, attacks on human rights defenders, the issues of army abuse, freedom of expression, sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to the report, the cases of ill-treatment against people in police custody still persist, there is lack of pluralism among broadcasted Mass media, and several incidents of violence and encroachments against Mass media staff and journalists were recorded during the passing year. The report touched upon the cases of impeding freedom of assembly and attacks against human rights activists. It also addressed the protest action of Shant Harutyunyan and his friends and the fact of their detention as a result of it, facts of army abuse, torture exerted against people in police custody as well as cases of violation of human rights in other aspects.
In a talk with irates.am Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, human rights activist Artur Sakunts considered the presented evaluations as adequate.
“More apparent violations of human rights were singles out in the report, which are of systemic and ongoing nature”, noted the human rights activist in a talk with us.
According to our interlocutor, the detailed reference to Armenia’s elections, freedom of assembly and expression in the report suggests that Armenia was in the limelight.
