Sakunts urged law enforcement agencies to initiate criminal proceedings against him, if they considered his statement on votes cast on behalf of absent persons to constitute false testimony
00:00, December 11, 2015 | News, Other newsHuman rights defender Artur Sakunts insists that at the precincts with a turnout of voters over 70% during the Referendum, votes were cast on behalf of the persons absent from Armenia at the moment. In his interview to Azatutyun (Liberty), Sakunts urged the law enforcement agencies to initiate criminal proceedings against him if they considered his statement to constitute false testimony. “If they are sure that I provide false testimony, let us open up all the precincts with a 70% turnout of voters and check whether there are ballots of absent voters there. And if they don’t initiate criminal proceedings, this would mean that they obviously agree that a crime occurred,” said Sakunts. According to the human rights defender, on December 6, the observers from the Organization recorded hundreds of incidences of electoral frauds ranging from double voting to ballot stuffing, and have numerous video records but are not sure that the persons responsible for the frauds will be punished. He noted that after the previous elections, they had also filed a series of reports on violations but achieved nothing. “The examination of our reports on holding the offenders liable or initiating criminal proceedings on electoral frauds yielded no results,” said Sakunts.
